PRECAUTIONS:
DO NOT use steel wool pads to clean your stainless steel sink. The small iron particles of the pads will lead to rusting and corrosion. It is highly recommended to use scouring pads, such as ScotchBrite to clean.
DO NOT keep any mild steel or cast iron cookware in the stainless steel sink for long periods of time, since it will result in permanent staining of the sink.
DO NOT leave rubber dish mats, sponges, or cleaning pads in the stainless sink overnight. It can lead to staining and discoloration of the stainless steel sink.
DO NOT use chlorine bleach as a cleanser, for it may cause pitting. NOTE: Some bacterial soaps contain chlorine compounds.
BE AWARE that any sink drain cleaning product containing sulphuric or hydrochloric acid will damage the stainless steel sink.
GRANITE SINK CARE:
Most deposits can be removed with washing up liquid and hot water followed by a clean water rinse. It is also good practice to then dry the sink with a soft cloth, as otherwise limescale can build up on the surface. BLANCOCLEAN can be used on all sinks except for black ones.
For more stubborn marks, it is recommended that your use a cream or powder cleaner design for cleaning kitchen surfaces. This is applied to the surface of the sink and scrubbed into a paste with a ScotchBrite® pad before rinsing off with clean water. The ScotchBrite® pad will not damage the sink surface.
The quality of your water can affect the good looks of your sink by giving the appearance of staining. This “staining” is generally a build up of limescale or similar mineral deposits within your water supply; this is particularly prevalent in hard water areas.
Limescale is the natural minerals that are contained within all drinking water. These minerals appear on the surface of all products where the water is in contact and allowed to dry naturally. As the water evaporates naturally through time, the mineral deposits within liquid cannot disappear so they are then left behind on the surface. Limescale readily absorbs staining agents such as tea, coffee, and red wine and can change the appearance from normal white. For this reason, always rinse and dry your sink after each occasion that you use it to avoid the mineral deposits being left behind.
To remove any limescale that has built up on the surface of your sink, try a limescale remover available from hardware or DIY stores. Alternatively, a natural remedy to this problem is to soak the affected area in a solution of hot water and white vinegar (not brown); three parts water to one part vinegar. This will loosen the scale, making it easy to scrub it away with an abrasive pad and kitchen sink cleaner. The area should then be rinsed thoroughly and dried to stop the build up starting again.
PORCELAIN SINK CARE:
1. Fill a porcelain sink with hot water and add a cup of bleach to it to deal with long standing stains. Let it sit for an hour or two. Clean it out with dish washing liquid to clean all traces of bleach out.
2. Finish by attacking any stains with scouring powder. If there are still marks left, try leaving a paste of scouring powder and water on the stain for a few hours. If everything else fails, wet a small pumice stone and gently rub the stain. Realize that this can damage the finish so only do this as a last resort--very carefully.
3. Wash stainless steel sinks with warm sudsy water. Only scour with powder or gel cleanser when it really needs it and then no more than once a week. Rub only in the direction of the grain. Rinse well and dry thoroughly. Follow up with a glass cleaner for a perfect shine.
4. Don't leave standing water in stainless steel as it will ruin the shiny finish on your sink. Also avoid leaving wet rags or steel wool pads on the sink as this could leave rust spots. With proper care, your sink should last for many, many years.
COPPER SINK CARE:
After each use, the sink should be rinsed and towel dried thoroughly. To clean the sink, an ordinary mild detergent and soft cloth should be used, then rinse the sink thoroughly and towel dry. Harsh alkaline-based, ammoniabased, or harsh acidic-based cleaning chemicals or products are not to be used. Never use abrasive cleaners or scouring pads. To remove stains and tarnish, a good quality copper cleaner, following manufacturer’s instructions should be used. For added protection, coat with a fine sink wax. For tough stains try using a paste of baking soda and water applied with a sponge. Rinse thoroughly and dry with a soft cloth. Copper sinks can be used for all normal household tasks but avoid prolonged surface exposure to acidic foods such as tomato sauce and citrus products. If these products sit overnight in direct contact with copper, the surface may discolor. Should the surface discolor, it will start to darken back down with use. The natural patina process may also be affected by mineral content in your water supply. Removing any standing water with a soft cloth is recommended to prevent calcium staining and mineral buildup. To further age and patina a sink, dissolve a teaspoon of salt with 1/4 cup ammonia and apply to sink. Let dry for half an hour then wash with cold water and dry with a clean, soft cloth. Repeat process to further patina.
ACRYLIC SINK CARE:
GENERAL USE We recommend cleaning Pemberton sinks with a powder detergent like Ajax or Comet. The special satin gloss finish is improved with powder detergents but all liquid detergents will also prove satisfactory. Please be careful when using drain cleaners. Some drain cleaners react relatively violently as one would expect by the very nature of the product and instructions for handling are always precisely given with the product. Ensure that the cleaning agent goes down the waste outlet and that it does not sit in the basin.
Pemberton is heat resistant and will not mark below temperatures of 365�F. This means, in practical terms, that pots in which water for vegetables for example are boiled could be left on your sink indefinitely. However it is always good practice to allow hot items to cool before placing them in any sink. Alternatively run some water when putting a hot pot into the basin. By doing this there is no chance of marking your sink, as the hot item is instantly cooled.
